Our friends over at Gear Vendors and 1320video.com made sure this video came together – a pair of brand-new 2014 Vipers at the 2013 Spring Texas Invitational in Caddo Mills, Texas. The $108,000 Adrenaline Red car, in which we get a rode-along, is one of 100, a base-model SRT package with 640 horsepower from the V-10 engine. The car still wears the factory plastic covers over the seats and steering wheel – that’s how new they are!
Roll racing starts at 60 MPH, which is a true test of the machine as that is when its under the most load. If you’ve ever done a highway roll you realize that the machine has to overcome aerodynamics (which doesn’t seem to be an issue with these slippery shells), and according to the driver of the red machine, that’s the first time this car has even been tortured at that speed. We applaud those who are willing to test a Viper that doesn’t even appear to be broken in yet, but we have to wonder if the car, which he says is for sale, will have any warranty on it when the next guy goes to sign on the dotted line.
One of the neat things about the Viper is that is comes with an in-dash display that measures quarter-mile times, G-forces, and the like right in the middle of the speedometer and center-pod display. As the cameraman says, “they sound amazing”, and we have to agree with him. The blue car is #5 off the production line and only has eleven miles on it according to the owner, and a twin-turbo system is in the works. Hopefully they’ll shoot more video at that time – we can only imagine the ride with the intended 1000 horsepower that’s planned for the car.
