A stolen classic car is recovered after a strange turn of events when a Minneapolis local spots the stolen 1987 Buick Grand National, valued at nearly $40,000, in a local business parking lot. The car, which in a twist was stolen twice, was initially taken from the Unique Specialty & Classic Car dealership located in Mankato, Minnesota, around 4 a.m. when three men broke into the facility through a side window. Upon entry and removing both the ’87 Buick and a Corvette several other vehicles were damaged as the thieves rolled out both cars.
Dumping the Corvette a short distance down the road the thieves vanished into the night pretty well unnoticed. The dealership, appearing to only have security via a surveillance system, captured the crooks on video which they turned over to the Police to help with the investigation. The classic stolen ride making its way to Minneapolis, police received a call this past Tuesday evening from a local who upon seeing the stolen car on Kare 11 News spotted it parked on a street in Northern Minneapolis. The Police quickly reacting had the car towed to the city impound for safe keeping.
Not quite out of harm’s way in a peculiar twist around 6 a.m. on that Wednesday the car is stolen yet again from under the nose of the impound, when what police believe to be the same suspects crashed the Buick through a gate and into a barrier in a bold get away. Thankfully recovered the same day once more due to a citizen viewing the story on the local news, the car was found parked in a parking lot outside the business tower known as the Target Campus West Building.
Bringing this strange car heist to an end, the police once again recovered the car. Suffering a banged up front end from breaking through the impound gate we can report the car has been returned to its rightful owner. Dealership owner Jeremy Thomas shared, “I’ve been in the car business for over twenty years. I’ve never seen anything like it. Never heard anything like it,” he said Wednesday discussing the details of the prior 48 hours. Once the car was recovered the first time, do you think it showed a lot of stupidity for the thieves to steal it yet again?
