Once again, RK Motors Charlotte brings another gem worthy of the showroom stage. Stumbling through their inventory, we found a slick, bubble top 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air.
Restoration of this beauty was completed in 2010 by Street Metal Fabrication in Greenville, South Carolina. In addition, it features a custom perimeter chassis, replacing Chevrolet’s revered X-frame chassis.
Winner of several national awards, this Bel Air is fitted with a 598 cubic-inch 9.8 liter Dart Engineering V8 that makes upwards of 800 horsepower. A Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and hydraulic clutch are fitted onto the Bel Air’s powertrain.
Power steering by AGR Performance and Wilwood disc brakes give the vehicle adequate stopping power. Offset 19-inch and 20-inch Schott wheels are tucked cleanly under the Bel Air’s large fender wells.
The meaty 275/45R20 Goodyear GT II’s and 225/45R19 Goodyear Eagle RS-As are more than capable of handling the Bel Air’s raw power. Uniquely, the Bel Air is painted in Subaru’s original Sunlight Gold Opal, a great choice that gives it a classy, retro look.
The chrome bumpers and stainless trim wrap flawlessly around the Bel Air, giving it defined body lines and a good complement to the curved glass.
The car is also fitted with custom-fabricated headers and valve covers. Even the extra mile was taken by crafting various parts under the hood to color match the exterior of the vehicle.
From the floorboard to the custom oil pan, Subaru’s Sunlight Gold Opal paint is splashed all about this Bel Air adding an touch of fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The leather interior is a custom creation accomplished by Paul Atkins Interiors. Furthermore, even the dashboard is custom, fitted with Classic Instruments All American gauges.

Billet foot pedals and even a push-button ignition are installed on the vehicle. With sheer raw power and several awards to give it prestige, this Bel Air will surely attract the attention of any classic car collector.
