For those of you who are to young to remember, or those who just enjoyed the 80s and maybe even the 90s too much to remember, 2015 isn’t the first time that Ford has put a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under the hood of the Mustang.

In the early 1980s, Ford created the SVO Mustang. The car was meant to be a more refined version of the pony car. The SVO focused on handling rather than just brute strength straight line speed. The car’s 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine made horsepower nearly equal to the 5.0, and all in a lighter weight package. In fact the SVO made 205 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque.

This particular example from RK Motors Charlotte, stock number 134982, is about as pristine an example of the SVO as can be found. With just 9,398 miles on the odometer this car is pretty much 100-percent original. The original engine, paint, and upholstery have all survived nearly 30 years since the car rolled off the assembly line new.

The SVO was an expensive car when it was new, often racing up a sticker price that could exceed that of even a fully optioned Mustang GT, much less a stripped 5.0 LX. However, every example of the car built found a home. Today, these cars are experiencing a resurgence of interest among collectors and enthusiasts.

This particular car is priced right in the top end of the market for the SVO Mustang right now, but it’s a premium example. As pristine examples continue to dry up, the price will continue to go up for these cars. We’d like to see it in the hands of an enthusiast, who will enjoy it, but also keep it pristine for years to come. Regardless of who wants or buys it, it’s up for grabs now via RK Motors Charlotte.
