For the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Ford once again took over Joe Louis Arena for a pretty big debut, the 2017 Ford GT. Born to celebrate the anniversary of Ford’s historic victory over Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the soloe blue prototype rumbled to life and let roar with a 600 horsepower 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6. That engine will hopefully propel it to another Le Mans victory when Ford returns to the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2017.

Between now and then though, there’s still a lot of testing, tuning, and refining to be done, on both the Le Mans-specced Ford GT, and the one Ford wants to sell to customers for a rumored $400,000. Each. One of those problems manifested itself at the Circuito del Jarama in Madrid, Spain where the prototype GT was attending a Forza 6 event. According to World Car Fans, engineers couldn’t get the six-figure supercar started for about twenty minutes, as onlookers looked on and took videos.

This is certainly not indicative of any problems with the Ford GT program as this is, after all, still just a one-off, hand-built prototype. Sure, it probably has a ridiculous amount of man hours put into it, but part of building a prototype is to shake out any issues before entering “mass” production. Just what happened we haven’t been able to figure out, though it sounds like an electrical or ignition problem, as the 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 wasn’t even turning over when the key start button was pushed.

After 20 or so minutes of fiddling with it though, the 600 horsepower GT revved back to life before driving into storage. Sounds like just something small that Ford will assuredly deal with it. Otherwise, they risk disappointing another Jeremy Clarkson, who famously praised the 2005/6 Ford GT that he bought…before publicly asking Ford to return his money after dealing with a ton of issues…including the inability to start.
