Inspired by American Graffiti, Larry “VooDoo” Grobe began building cars off his driveway at the age of 18 years old. With Grobe’s vision and tenacity to build unique cars completely from scratch, could he be coming to your television soon?
Garnering heavy interest in automobiles, Grobe was a frequent participant at car shows and local cruise nights. Grobe’s creations have grown to be a crowd favorite. Whether the car is sleek and mean or loud and proud, Grobe’s taste for design is remarkable and far from normal.
Now in his forties, Grobe runs his own shop, VooDoo Larry Kustoms in Schaumburg, Illinois. In short, Grobe’s shop is 4,500 square feet of hot rod heaven to drool over. At any point in time, there are complete builds from the ground up alongside daily drivers aspiring for mild modifications.
Grobe’s shop may not be all fancy or filled with the latest and greatest technology, but it doesn’t stop him and his team from staying committed to their art. Grobe and his team are determined, pouring their heart and soul into every build and modification they are tasked with.
With his goal to bring classic cars back to life, rusted or rotting, Grobe sets out not for the quantity of his work but the quality. Grobe said it’s not about the cars, it’s about the culture.
Even with the advent of technology and changes in tastes for design, hot rod and kustom kulture remain relevant for the creativity and workmanship that arises from it. Grobe and his team are just a tiny piece to the entire community that encompasses hot rods and custom cars.

Ambitious and driven by passion, we hope to see Grobe’s creations flourish with a larger audience. With several car shows on television spanning from Street Outlaws to Fast N’ Loud, we don’t see why Grobe’s unique vision and personality couldn’t cater to a national audience. Building cars, trucks and motorcycles, Grobe’s vision remains endless and his commitment to kustom kulture shouldn’t go unseen.
