Fire: can’t live with it, can’t live without it, especially when the nights are cold and you’ve got way too many marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers. There’s a variety of ways to start a fire, from using flint and steel to the bow drill to the fire plough, but where’s the fun in that? That’s the question Xtreme Performance Videos was asking when they came up with this awesome idea.
We all know the building blocks of a fire–kindling, tinder, and fuel. While the first two have remained the same since the dawn of plant life, the issue of fuel really just comes down to personal preference. Spindle and groove, magnifying glasses, and matches have been the regular standbys of years past, but they pale in comparison to the show and pizzazz of what we see in the video above.
The maroon Deuce coupe, marked by a “54” on the side, sits as the driver gets everything ready to go by revving the car to get the afterburner going. The Ford goes through a few false starts before making its first decent blaze at the 0:23 mark, as three feet of fire shoots out of the twin tailpipes.
The flames reach the woodpile but don’t do much. It takes a second stab to finally get the fire started, and like the boss that it is, the coupe and its driver make their dramatic exit to the right as we’re left to ponder just how awesome that whole display was.
You can say what you want about afterburner kits, but there’s no denying their practicality when it comes to campfires. Which car would be your ideal flame-spouting automobile? Post your ideas and suggestions below.
