Video: How To NOT Gap A Spark Plug

This video is supposed to be funny, but we think they missed the target(pun intended). What we have is a gentlemen that is gapping his spark plugs in his Chevy truck. His bubbly friend comes along and says that he’s doing it the wrong way, with a conventional gapping tool.

She instructs him to put the plug into a shotgun shell, which has had the load removed. After inserting the shell into the shotgun, he points and fires away at a cinderblock. The spark plug bullet destroys the cinderblock, crumpling into a bunch of pieces.

The spark plug is also destroyed after going through the cinder block. But in the video he says that the gap is perfect. Slightly amusing, but we wouldn’t suggest anybody gap their spark plugs in this fashion. After the video they show the plug up close, the the porcelain missing, threads mashed and electrode all but gone.

Flipping through their YouTube channel, we can see they have an entire series of videos named “Demolition Ranch.” They love to use explosives and guns, trying crazy things to see what happens.

The spark plug gapping video is no exception to the Demolition Ranch. They were able to use a shotgun, destroyed a cinder block and a spark plug. That’s right up their alley.

In this case though, we are going to stick with the traditional way of gapping spark plugs. While it’s not as exciting, the original method is much more effect and easier on the plugs.
