Burnouts: we love and go crazy for these raw, aggressive displays of power. They add excitement, flair and atmosphere too any drag racing event or car show.
Crowds go crazy for 100 foot clouds of smoke, the smell the burning rubber and the thunderous revving of a blown V-8. Let’s face it, burnouts are simply cool. However, sometimes smoking the tires goes wrong and Murphy’s law kicks in.
Thunder was taking place in the land down under as a few Australian musclecars were smoking their tires to the point of being so well done, that they caught fire. A Ford Falcon was smoking its rears when they were set a blaze and a fireman had to rush to put it out. Later, a Holden UTE continued to roast it’s rears even after they were on fire, given the crowd the auto equivalent of pyrotechnics.
Hot wheels leading the way.A 1970s Supercharged UTE was performing a burnout and donut so powerful that it created intense flames that burned up through the wheelwells, almost reaching the fuel cell in the bed.
The truck was then lost in a thick cloud of its own smoke, so it sent up its signal light after its tires caught fire. Australians know how to put on a good show and live up to their reputation as being a wild bunch. What’s the craziest burnout that you have ever performed? Have you ever destroyed a set of tires for the sake of a good burnout?
