Video: Goodguys Missile Giveaway Car Project

How many times have you filled out one of those generic forms at a shopping mall, with hopes of winning a new car? Only you soon find out you’ve been added to a hundred mailing lists offering everything from gym memberships to a free night’s stay in some raggedy motel in the seedier section of Vegas. We’ve all been there, we learn the hard way that there’s no such thing as a free lunch anymore.

But Goodguys Rod and Custom Association, on the other hand, has been giving away more than a free lunch for decades. They don’t do it to collect email addresses, they do it to collect fans. Numbering about a hundred now, Goodguys has been giving away a custom-built car since 1984. No, these aren’t cars you find at the local shopping center with entry forms stuck under the wiper blades, these cars are built by professionals who install the same parts that you can get from the vendors at Goodguys events throughout the country.

Goodguys puts on some of the biggest shows, and in keeping up with their past giveaway contest they’re giving away yet another really cool ride. For the 2012 giveaway, it’s a custom ’71 HEMI Challenger built by RPM Hot Rods, who insisted that this car be built to perform. This car is based on the “Motown Missile” drag racer from the 70’s, with the classic Goodguys yellow and a mirror-finish black paint job that was chosen from entries submitted earlier in the year.

This car is a proven driver, it’s not just built for trailering around the country and showing off; Goodguys wants the winner of this car to be able to drive it home. Or better yet, run it through the autocross at Super Sunday first, then drive it home – this car is built with pro-touring in mind and it’s no slouch on the autocross course, as you can see in the video above.

So how do you win this car? First you must enter your own car in a Goodguys event. At each event this year, one person will qualify to be a finalist and at the end of the year each finalist gets to draw a key. The key that starts the car goes to it’s new owner, and that’s not a bad deal considering you’re probably going to be at a Goodguys event anyway.

Past, and current, giveaway cars: Speed '33, Clean Air '55, Boss Snake and '71 Goodguys Missile.
