This is an odd matchup for sure, a Raptor versus Durango SRT, and then throw a Dodge Challenger Hellcat into the mix. However weird, the guys a The Fast Lane went for it, seeking to find out which $70k AWD heavy-hitter would take the gold when pitted against each other. The winner of the truck vs SUV showdown when then have the opportunity to go up against the 2016 Challenger Hellcat.
The Ford Raptor being put up in this race is powered by a 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 450-horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Backing the engine is a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. This truck has some weight on it, coming in at 5,697 pounds.
The ever-so-slightly lighter, 5,369-pound competitor, the Dodge Durango SRT has a naturally-aspirated 6.4L Hemi V8, making 475-horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is also sent to all four wheels, but it fed through an 8-speed automatic instead. The lighter weight and additional horsepower meant the Durango took the Ford Raptor down in the first drag race, so onto the Challenger round it was.
Naming off the specs of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is almost an insult to your intelligence at this point; even though we know you know, the Challenger Hellcat makes 707-horsepower with a supercharged Hemi 6.2L engine. It seems as though the Hellcat simply has too much power and a big enough weight advantage to lose, so is that how it shakes out? Of course. The Hellcat snaps a win, even with a very notable lose of traction during a 2-3 shift.
Now that the Hellcat-powered Jeep Trackhawk is being shipped, that’s the race we want to see!
