When you hear someone mention Route 66, several things can come to mind: a song, a movie, or even a car cruise where you’ll find thousands of people and hundreds of cool classic and custom cars. What you probably didn’t think of, at least if you’re living in the U.S., is Finland.
We found the video above on YouTube and while we were initially curious as to why so many classic cars were covered with snow, we didn’t expect to see so many classic American cars at a place that is famous for being a car cruise destination. While most of the video is about these classics covered in snow (another treat for those who live in warmer climates) the Motel 66 seems to be a very cool tourist trap.
It seems the lure of the classic American car is evident all over the world, and seeing classics like this is always a cool sight to see – even when they’re covered with snow. Watching the video further and we see a little more dedication to the famed Route 66, complete with a sign with arrows pointing to Illinois and California.
Adjacent to the directional sign you’ll find their own version of Cadillac Ranch, another famed attraction along Route 66. Cadillac Ranch is an artsy project that started as a piece of public art to confuse the locals, and some transplanted art-hippies from San Francisco planted a tribute to the Cadillac tail fin in the dirt just west of Amarillo, Texas.
And just like the row of Cadillacs in Amarillo, this row of Cadillacs in Finland includes the graffiti that made the landmark even more famous. Who knew that all the way across the ocean in Finland that a group of locals would recreate what we call a piece of American automotive history. What other American landmarks have you found while visiting another country?
Some great pics from YouTube user Jamboolio, who posted the video above.
