Sometimes, the greatest things happen when you least expect them – That’s essentially what happened with Starlite Rod & Kustom when Edgar Hernandez and Jack Fields met at a lowrider show back in the day. This short documentary by Shutterpunch Pictures does a great job of showing how two people can overcome differences to create amazing works of art, and eventually become best buds.
In 2003 Hernandez and Fields started Starlite Rod and Kustom because they were unemployed and eager to make money – prior to that, they were working out of their parents’ yards, which didn’t end up well because the yards were getting thrashed and there would be overspray in a lot of places there shouldn’t have been.
Since the shop’s opening a little over ten years back, Hernandez and Field’s friendship changed for the better. They would always meet up and work on cars, or just go to car shows together – now, they’re together almost more than they see their significant others and can pretty much finish eachother’s sentences.
We love to see this kind of ‘magic’ happen – its not everyday that two guys with little to no mutual interests get together and build incredibly detailed machines, while becoming great friends in the process.
