When it comes to custom car builders, it’s usually the guys who have been in the industry for quite some time that are most noted in the car scene. In a recent interview with the young men of Chopit Kustom, Eastwood takes a look at the next generation of amazing hot rod creators, who in this case have already had years of experience. Check out the interview above.
In 2011, Chopit Kustom moved from the East Coast out west to reunite with the famed California hot rod culture that inspired their work. Along with his business, owner of Chopit Kustom, Gary “Chopit” Fioto, relocated his family including his now 19 and 22-year-old sons Fabian and Nick. Instead of being upset about the move, like many young adults might be, the boys embraced the opportunity to enjoy the true heartland of American hot rodding.
Having been immersed in the industry since toddlers, both Fabian and Nick now work at Chopit Kustom, doing everything from wiring to metal work. That includes working on some of their dad’s famed cars, like the all-steal, completely hand-fabricated 1955 Ford Bubble Car, which won a Gold Award at the National Rod & Custom Car Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
True to their hot rod blood, both Fabian and Nick like things from the simpler times, like rockabilly music, the Greaser style and pure American steal. When it comes to cars, they find inspiration from 1950s hot rods and concept vehicles.
The Fioto boys certainly aren’t the youngest dedicated rodders we’ve seen, but they may just very well be in the running for the most experienced builders at their young ages. With the Chopit charm mastered, who knows what each of them will create for the hot rod scene to appreciate in the future.
