A couple of weeks ago, we talked about how Dodge is all about the numbers, and we’ve seen a few of them show up in odd places, and some have shown up repeatedly. So let’s look back on what Dodge has shown us about the new Demon slated to debut at the New York International Auto Show.
We’ve stated before that a source pegged the Demon at “about 850” horsepower, and within a couple of weeks we saw a tire shot that was modified by the Dodge creative marketing team that showed us “815” on a tire. So we figured that is close enough to 850, could that be the magic number we’re all waiting to hear about?
With the latest video released, we see a bunch of 757s all over the screenshots of the Performance Pages, and in that same video we see a split second of several pages, including Boost and Horsepower/Torque. Let’s examine one little trick that Dodge played on us.
We see the Intake Air Temperature and the Air Fuel Ratio, as well as the Boost – with the peak number blocked by a Demon graphic. Some sources noticed that the first two graphs show unrealistic numbers, but failed to see that the blue graph line is identical in all three.
Notice how that blue line is the same line on all three, including the one hidden by the Demon logo?
So let’s examine the Boost graph, and overlay the repeated line and voila! We have have a peak number that makes more sense on the three graphs. Remember the license plate that read: “#2576@35”? As we suggested, 35 would be far too much boost on a street car, however, the blower size could very well be larger than the Hellcat’s at 2576cc, or 2.6L. So what would @35 mean? When we calculated the 35 as inches of Mercury, we came up with 17.19 psi, which just happens to coincide with the boost page with our overlaid graph.
That license plate could be calculated to 17.19 psi, which coincides with the graph that we overlaid on the boost screen.
But we’re still seeing 757 on these pages, and the horsepower page looks to read 757 as the peak horsepower. The Red line (HP) runs about midway through 700 and 800, the the Orange line just eclipsing the 700 mark, possibly about 735. But then there’s the tire image with 815 and the Race Gas button. Could we have been correct with 757 base horsepower and a push of the Race Gas button (and race fuel) would modify the tune and provide the car with 815 horsepower?
There's your horsepower and torque pages, and they coincide with the 757s all over the performance pages. But what about that 815? Race Gas, perhaps? Note that there are two lines above 700 without a reference We're guessing that 800 and 900 would be the markers.
Add to that, the Times page that shows a 0-60 in 3.0 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 10.5 at 129 mph, and that 815 number could be the magic number to propel the Demon down the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds. Some say we’re wrong, but Dodge has said, “Everything means something” and we are taking that into consideration. You be the judge, tell us what you think below.
