The mid-sixties Ford Fairlanes were always a pretty nice sedan. Throw on a set of mag wheels and they looked even better. But building one like this takes it from nice to desirable. Starting with a pretty clean car to begin with, it was in dire need of some improvements in the engine and suspension section.

There aren’t that many examples around to follow, so you basically start with a clean canvas and build your own. So what do you get when you take a 1967 Ford Fairlane 500XL with a tired 289, and finesse it a little with a stroked 302? You get 347 cubic inches of stroker motor delivering 453 ponies.

Ask Ted over at Pro-Touring.com and he’ll show you how his car transformed into a beast, which he calls “Scarelane”. His MSD equipped stroker has a built C4 behind it now, but he hopes to put in a Tremec someday. For now, the C4 with a 3000 stall converter will have to do.

The four wheel disc brakes are  Wilwood, with 13” discs up front and 12” in the rear. He added a Heidt’s Superide II front steering rack setup and four link rear. The 18” Centerline Competition Series wheels and BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW help keep this car planted, running 275/40 in the rear and 235/40 in the front.

He said he had to narrow the 9” Ford rear end to get the tires to tuck up under the quarters. We like the look and think that was a better choice than going to a narrow tire. The Pro-Touring craze is really bringing a lot of cars to life, and Scarelane is one great example.
