Every year at the SEMA Show, manufacturers bring their best. Companies and individuals spend thousands of hours building the most power and showing off the most muscle they can. This year, Turbonetics took flexing their muscle one step further, by bringing one of the best body builders and his ride out to the show. Flex Wheeler is a Guinness Book of World Records inductee, holder of numerous records and is an “honest to God” car guy! Turbonetics let us peel him away from their booth for a few minutes to not only talk about him (Wheeler), but his high powered twin turbo 07 Charger.
Wheeler just loves cars. It doesn’t matter what it is, he appreciates the craftsmanship, style and performance. He explained that over the years he has had his fair share of Lamborghinis, BMWs, and Mercedes vehicles, but it is hard to compare or beat his 2007 Dodge Charger. Originally equipped with a 3.5L V6, Wheeler knew that just wasn’t going to cut it. So, he called Josh Richards to build a 426 based off of the 6.1l SRT 8 engine.
The system is designed for 20 lbs of boost, but Wheeler drives this car all the time. So, they decided to set it at a mild 13 lbs. Even mildly tuned, this car produces 815 horsepower and 880 lb-ft of torque to the ground.
Wheeler says that his kids love it when he takes them to football practice or picks them up from school. We were a little surprised to find that Wheeler will regularly drive the car on long trips. “To get to Las Vegas from my house in California, it takes about 9 hours and this is the 4th show that I have taken it to. I have, also, taken it down to Mexico twice,” says Wheeler.
Wheeler worked closely with Reggie Wynn from Turbonetics to make sure this combination was not only streetable, but reliable. To ensure that the power was always being transmitted to the ground and that he doesn’t get stranded anywhere, Wheeler ended up installing a Southern Hotrod SHR NAG1-HTCr transmission.
