If you’ve followed racing, particularly NASCAR, then you’re probably familiar with the name Ray Evernham. Since he was 15, he has been working on race cars and that early path has brought him to where he is today. As a three-time NASCAR crew chief champion, he knows a bit about wrenching on cars, and he’s combining his love for racing with his skills for building.
In the video above, he tells us that he’s planning on unveiling a car at SEMA that he built in his shop. The teaser video states that the car combines old school American muscle with new school NASCAR technology. This one-of-a-kind car that he designed himself is his introduction to the custom car world as a builder and fabricator.
Evernham is teaming up with Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, and he plans to unveil the car at 10:30 pm in North Hall on October 31st. His debut as a car designer and builder promises to be spectacular, with a car that is so unique that there is nothing like it anywhere, and from the teaser video we’re excited to see it too.
Teaser videos are meant to give you just enough to capture your interest, and this teaser from Evernham doesn't disappoint.
With his involvement with Dodge, the car he teases us with shares some very familiar clues. The part in the video where we see “M O U” above the grille, the unique shape of the front fenderwell, the taillamp and quarter panel shape, and the unmistakable grille tells us that he’s definitely reached back in time and chose a car we have seen before running on the high oval (think “Petty” blue).
What is the car in question? You can easily deduce that it’s a Plymouth from the lettering, but non-Mopar fans might not recognize the other clues given away in the video. Mopar fans, specifically 62-65 Mopar fans, will be quick to identify the car as a 1964 Plymouth, either a Belvedere or a Savoy considering the taillamps. Whichever it is, it’s definitely got the looks (and apparently the hardware) to impress and we can’t wait to see it. It’s a shame that Dodge has withdrawn from NASCAR (again), perhaps Ray will help encourage the Dodgeboys to get back to where they belong (again)?
