Every time you launch your car down the drag strip, an epic battle erupts between horsepower and traction. As your engine churns out power, which in the case of a 2015 Corvette Z06 is about 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, the rear wheels fight to dole the power out in small bits that won’t obliterate asphalt and rubber.
A supercar like the Lamborghini Huracan, however, sends power to all four wheels, gaining a grip advantage over rear-drive setups like the Corvette’s. This video of the 9-second Fasterproms Corvette Z06 lining up against a less-powerful Huracan perfectly demonstrates the difference traction can make.
With an already-powerful foundation in the 2015 Corvette Z06, Fasterprom added a custom tune, custom pulley, a ported supercharger, modified air box, thermal reduction plates (to reduce heat), ARH 1.875 headers, and Hoosier drag radials. All bolt-on parts that launched this Z06 into the low 9-second range at the drag strip, with about 714 rwhp according to the dyno. From a roll, the 602 hp Huracan doesn’t stand a chance, even with its all-wheel drive advantage.
Horsepower vs. Traction, embodied
From a dead stop, however, and on those treacherously-slippery Mexican roads, the Italian exotic’s all-wheel drive really comes into play. Despite getting a jump on the Lambo, the white Z06 quickly falls behind as it spins and shreds those expensive tires. It takes quite some time for the Vette to close the gap with the Lambo, and by then the race is over.
Naturally, it makes one want to put all-wheel drive onto the Corvette, and end any question of its domination. But would Corvette enthusiasts ever embrace an all-wheel drive version?
Nah, probably not.
