New Caddys Coming Next Year, Including BMW-Fighter ATS

As expected, Cadillac has announced the launch of two new luxury cars for 2012. Speaking today at a management conference in Traverse City, MI, General Motors North America President Mark Reuss provided production information and availability for the two new models.

The Cadillac XTS will be available in either front or all-wheel drive to replace the STS and DTS models. The large luxury sedan will be built at Oshawa Assembly Plant in Ontario, where GM announced it will invest $117 million for the conversion. The XTS model is to launch next Spring.

The ATS is the much anticipated BMW-fighter from Cadillac. Smaller than the current CTS model, the ATS has a front engine, rear drive configuration, similar to the CTS. An investment of $190 million n the Lansing Grand River assembly plant was previously announced. This is where current Cadillac CTS models are built.

“The Cadillac Renaissance that started with the CTS is still going strong,” said Reuss. “The XTS continues Cadillac’s heritage as the leader in large luxury cars while the car we’ve codenamed ATS starts a new chapter for Cadillac in the luxury market’s C-segment. We’re confident it will attract luxury car buyers who previously would not have considered Cadillac.”

The Cadillac ATS will be launched in the summer of 2012. Neither configuration details or pricing for the new models was announced. Those should emerge between now and the 2012 North American International Auto Show, where full-fledged production models are anticipated to be on display.
