While walking around the 2014 Detroit Autorama show, ScottieD of ScottieDTV spotted this jaw dropping, traffic stopping, candy orange 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner. With its “Hot Wheels” orange paint job, big drag tires and massive blower sticking out of the hood, this mighty Mopar turns heads on the street & at the strip.
A Hot Wheels style orange paint job with blue and yellow stripes covers the body, giving her the nickname of Big Bad Orange. On the rear quarter panels little Roadrunner graphics have been airbrushed. A mirror sits underneath the hood reflecting the Herculean 572 cubic inch Keith Black Hemi which powers this supersonic bird.
Two 1050 CFM Demon carburetors deliver the juice to the 572 while a set of Dart Heads provides the combustion and an MSD ignition to light the fires. For even more raw power, a The Blower Shop 571 roots-style supercharger sits atop the engine. Horsepower specs aren’t listed, but we’re sure this mighty Mopar muscle machine is a real earth shaker.
The Roadrunner’s interior is a bit of a paradox; between racing and luxury. A mechanical gauge dashboard, a minimal console with no radio or glove box but valve body shifter, a console mounted fire extinguisher, and a fully integrated roll cage make up the racing aspects. While white leather seats with orange lining, white fabric carpet covering and custom roadrunner graphics are stitched into the back. Another great detail is the orange roadrunner wings embedded in her doors.
The owner has been working on her for the last 13 years and has been showing her for the last three. He’s put a lot of work into making this supersonic bird soar. She almost has a pro street look to her and as ScottieD himself says “It’s just a good looking car.”
