Jeb Greenstone And Cutworm Specialties Build One-Off Model A Dually

Cutworm Specialties, Inc. is a custom hot rod shop that was established in 2006. The shop is based out of Hayesville, a small town in North Carolina. Originally, the business started out as a service shop catering to motorcycle repair and custom paint jobs but it quickly evolved into something truly unique. Nowadays, Cutworm Specialties is building a national name for itself as a shop that builds one off hot rods completely fabricated from the ground up.1424441_383893581741845_1443322259_n

eGarage recently shot a video spotlighting one of Cutworm’s latest client builds, an all-aluminum dually replica based off of the designs from a 1930-31 Ford Model A. The dually has been garnering more attention as of late, Michael Zak of autoblog recently reported on it during this year’s SEMA Show, “Jeb Greenstone, president, designer, and lead fabricator of the custom hot rod company Cutworm Specialties won the inaugural ‘Ride Your Hauler to SEMA’ contest with his impressive Dually Hauler.” The company and the dually were honored with their own display section during the show.

Cutworm Specialties, Inc. is rooted in Jeb’s relationship with and love for his late grandfather. The Cutworm shop was originally Jeb’s grandfather’s old general store and the shop name is an homage to his grandfather’s old nickname.in-the-shop2-662x496

Jeb and his crew specialize in one-off ground up builds. Just about every part on his several builds was fab’d up by the folks at Cutworm. There is no shortage of aircraft style riveting and bead welding adorning the hot rods born from the Cutworm shop. Jeb swears by a meticulous method of creating as many parts for an automobile himself while creating a hot rod that is simple and straight forward. “Sometimes less is more, especially in this world. You can go to a point where you cross the line and it becomes tacky,” says Jeb.

The dually’s suspension, spindles, axle, and lug nuts are all built from scratch. The powertrain features a 1967 Lincoln 460 V8 with a built C6 transmission that produces between 575 and 600 hp. The interior is indicative of the shops bare bone, minimalist aesthetic – the interior features completely hand made seats, dash, steering wheel, and pedals. The dually is a fine example of the art of fabrication and the preservation of old world skills in a modern computerized age.574730_315238495274021_972557663_n

In closing, Shawn Davis, welder and fabricator at Cutworm had this to say on the nature of hot rod culture, “Hot rodding per say is a totally different world of the automobile. These things that we’re building, it’s not something that you’ll ever be able to just go to a dealership, test drive, and buy. It’s not your father’s Ford.”front-4-662x441
