Now here’s a car any musclecar fan could love. It appears to be bone stock, unmolested, and clean as a whistle. That makes it rare these days. That also makes it the best kind of musclecar because that means nobody botched it up, and it’s ready for anything you want to do your way.
Due to its new styling (for the time), the Chevy Chevelle SS 396 became one of America’s most popular musclecars. The manufacturer’s mid-size musclecar came with a 396 ci V8, heavy-duty suspension, and F70x14 wide oval tires. The interior had also been done anew, and bucket seats were an option.
The 396 looks like it's in decent shape. You even get the original Owner's Manual.
The base Turbo-Jet 396 kicked out 325 bhp, and next up the line was an optional 350-bhp L34. Also on the option list was a really fun 375-bhp L78. The L78 came with solid lifters, big-port heads, and an 800 cfm Holley 4BBL carb with an aluminum low-rise manifold. All the engines were offered with a three-speed stick standard, but a four-speed automatic was optional. The range of rearend gear ratios available went from 2.73:1 to 4.88:1.
According to the seller, the subject of today’s Chevelle e-Bay Find is VIN #138, and it has the original SS 396 drivetrain. He states that his item (post id: 4925430687) has mostly original paint, except for the hood that was “expertly” repainted. The interior is original, too, right down to the 8-track player. New, the car listed for a little less than three grand, this guy wants $32,500 for it, and says the price was dropped $2,000 recently. He will also take a Corvette, Viper, or very fast street car of equal value in trade. Really? Check it out and tell us what you think. Leave your remarks in the Comments section below.
