Early last September, Oklahoma State Troopers who were testing new sonar equipment in Foss Lake stumbled across not one, but two cars. What they first thought were merely a couple of stolen cars came with a grisly discovery; six bodies, potentially solving two cold cases that had long gone unsolved.

Troopers pulled a 1969 Chevy Camaro and an unspecified early 50s Chevy sedan from Foss Lake, initially finding a total of five bodies between the two vehicles. Divers, however, found a sixth skull. Police had, so far, only identified one of the victims. The three bodies found in the Camaro were thought to be a trio of high school students missing since 1970, when they were last seen in a blue 1969 Camaro.

Time passed and the incident, along with the nameless bodies faded from the public’s attention. Until this past week that is. CNN reported that the identification of the bodies was completed and the mystery of the unidentified bodies has been resolved.
The Camaro was thought to have the bodies of Jimmy Allen Williams, 16, Leah Gail Johnson, 18, and Thomas Michael Rios, 18, all from Sayre, Oklahoma.
The 50s Chevy sedan was believed to have the remains of three passengers that were reported missing in 1969. Those missing persons were identified as John Alva Porter, then 69, Cleburn Hammack, 42, and Nora Marie Duncan, 58.
DNA test results this week prove that the bodies belonged to these missing individuals, the state Medical Examiner’s Office said, adding that they all died from drowning and their deaths were accidental.
