It’s not everyday that you encounter a classic hot rod with a futuristic flair, but that’s exactly what we came across this year at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas. But it’s not just this 1940 Ford pickup’s eccentric design cues that make it futuristic; the truck also makes use of a transmission from one of the leading modern transmission builders in the country – Tremec. For nearly 50 years, Tremec has been designing, building and backing some of the strongest and versatile transmissions in the industry. While it’s usually classic muscle cars and modern performance machines that get the Tremec treatment, the company also supplies the hot rod industry with some of the best gearboxes around.

Built by Kevin Tully of Hot Rod Chassis & Cycle (HRCC), this particular beast of a build, known as “Cosmic Outcast,” is one such hot rod taking advantage of what Tremec has to offer.

Equipped with a TKO 600 transmission, which backs a 600hp stroked and blown 1959 Oldsmobile 371 Rocket engine, this bad boy is equipped not only for grabbing attention on the show circuit, but also demanding some serious respect on the street.

As a premier builder in the industry, Tully has his fair share of choices for transmissions, but it’s Tremec that gets his approval almost exclusively for all his builds. That’s because not only are there a vast number of options to choose from with the Tremec lineup, the company also supplies transmissions that can be put behind almost any type of power plant and take the abuse of a spirited driver.

As Tully points out, he doesn’t want to hand any of his customers a finished build that doesn’t stand up to his quality standards and with Tremec transmissions backing a number of his projects, he doesn’t have to worry about any problems down the line.
