As we mentioned just a few short days ago, Joel Highsmith’s 200 MPH HEMI Challenger and his transport trailer were stolen from a lot in the San Bernardino, California, area on Sunday night, February 2. The entire community spread word all across the country, all over Facebook, and on sites like Street Legal TV announcing the theft. Enthusiasts banded together to get the word out, shared pictures and made sure everyone knew what had happened.
There aren’t words that can be said about someone who would steal another person’s hard work and dedication like this. But with the help of local surveillance video cameras that recorded the low-life act, clues were given to the authorities about the white F350 and a partial license plate, and the hunt was on.
The good news came early this morning that the SAN CATT Task Force worked through the night, and at 1 a.m. on Friday, Feb 7, the Highsmith HEMI was brought back home. Details are limited at the time of this publication, but the good news is that the thieves are in custody and will be prosecuted for the theft. The car was found in pieces, but Highsmith says that it looks like everything is there and it can be put back together.
The Highsmith HEMI – GRIZZ, as named by car owner Joel Highsmith, is a 2008 Dodge Challenger with a “Superbird” body kit that helps this car reach 200 MPH in events like the Mojave Mile, Texas Mile, etc. With a new engine and high hopes of attaining these high speeds in the next event, the car will be fully inspected and checked out to be sure that nothing has been compromised or damanged.
It’s always great news to hear that a stolen vehicle has been recovered, and even better news when the thieves are being prosecuted. Glad to hear the great news, Mr. Highsmith! It’s great to see this come to an end!
