America is a country of nearly innumerable laws, and the law books regarding automobile ownership and operation can be especially onerous. With calls to cull the rise in illegal street racing, punish wealthy drug lords, and a sometimes-sketchy grey market, often times very nice cars wind up getting crushed, in order to “send a message.” It’s always a shame, and for Mopar fans, this next video is especially brutal.
This 12-minute video of what looks to be either a first or second-generation Viper being slowly and methodically destroyed by an excavator is enough to bring a grown man to tears. Even worse, there is no explanation given, but just a sad, single sentence that claims another four (!!) Vipers were destroyed in a similar manner.
Why? For what purpose? We don’t know, as the person who uploaded this video, “Shawn C.”, has not added any further comment or information to the video. The Viper looks to be in fine condition, and even the the engine is trashed and useless, there is at least $20,000 worth of parts on that car alone. At least before the excavator digs in.
What was once a valuable parts car at worst becomes a useless pile of scrap by the end of the video. This car was utterly and totally destroyed, and is part of a pack of five, leading us to believe it may have either been an illegal import, which doesn’t make sense since this video almost certainly came from somewhere in North America, or part of a drug bust. Normally, the police will auction off assets from such seizures, but this could be part of the whole “send a message” initiative.
Whatever the reason, this is a complete and utter waste of a perfectly good car, and is arguably the bigger crime here.
