Do you know that Ford almost called its line of turbocharged, next-generation engines “TwinForce”? Yup, it’s true, but at the last minute the name was (thankfully) changed to EcoBoost to reflect both the fuel savings and performance potential. Today Ford’s EcoBoost engines are gaining in popularity…even with some supercar manufacturers.
Proving that hybrid cars don’t have to be boring, the Kepler Motors Motion Supercar combines electric motors with a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine that combine to crank out around 800 horsepower. Ya, you know you want one.
The Kepler Motion Supercar has an impressive list of specifications, starting with the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine that cranks out 550 horsepower to the rear wheels. That in and of itself would be impressive, but Kepler also included a pair of electric motors driving the front wheels. This combined setup puts out 800 horsepower, and allows the Kepler to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. That’s a far cry from the Toyota Prius!
This is one hybrid unconcerned with gas mileage, and the asking price is sure to reflect its exclusivity. Just 50 Kepler Motion supercars are said to be in the works. That carbon fiber monocoque chassis isn’t cheap, nor are the lithium-ion batteries powering the electric motors. All told, this could easily be a million-dollar hybrid supercar with unparalleled performance.
So here you go; proof that hybrids aren’t all boring. Now when is a major American automaker going to make an affordable performance hybrid? It can be done, and after seeing the Kepler Motion in action, we think it needs to be done!
