There is a lot of political discourse these days on whether or not the auto “bailouts” worked. Besides the fact that “bailout” implies that the low-interest loans would not be repaid (they were, with interest), America’s three automakers are doing better now than at any time in recent memory.
Even the Iraqi’s seem to understand this. Businessweek reports that over in Iraq, a rising middle class is pursuing the trappings of middle class lifestyles. One particularly popular car is the Dodge Charger, or Dodge “Obamas” as they are being called.
Now whether or not you want to credit (or blame) our current President for the auto bailouts, the fact is both Bush and Obama had a hand in saving the auto industry. Over in Iraq, where life has returned to some sort of normalcy, people are starting to live again. As it so happens, Iraq sits on the fifth-largest known oil reserves in the world, and the war-torn country is poised for a big comeback.
That is why GM, Chrysler, and Ford are already setting up dealerships in the most affluent areas. But the most popular car with the rising middle class? The Dodge “Obama” Charger. Again, both Bush and Obama had a hand getting the troops out of Iraq…although it was Bush who sent them there in the first place. Maybe that is why the Iraqi’s love their Obama-mobiles so much?
