The weather can put a serious crimp in your plans, especially with automotive related activities. For some car people, just the threat of a little bit of water will send them scurrying back to their garages for another coat of polish. But as we found in today’s featured video – for others it is a chance to play in the rain like kids with their favorite toys!
In Europe, the Rust n’ Dust Jalopy Teterow of 2011 was set to be a huge event for that summer. The filmmakers from Faust & Heisler had planned for months to make a documentary of the event but when the skies opened up and dumped huge amounts of rain on the unpaved and poorly drained event site, the chances of success were in doubt.
However a lot of people drove long distances in anticipation of a good time and once they arrived, they would not be denied! On this specific occasion, a few hardy souls managed to challenge the elements and take part in what they had set out to do in the first place. They were going to enjoy their cars, their companions and their music whether Mother Nature cooperated or not!
The skies opened up and turned the site into something more akin to swampland. But for those determined to make the best of any situation, the event was a rousing success.
The resulting video coverage of the event shows how absolutely resolved these fans were in the celebration of their hot rods and passion. Competing on a race track that more resembled a mud bog, this group of dedicated (or could they be called slightly deranged) hot rodders took part in what was more a defiant celebration than a competition. And while it is true that most of the cars that joined in the competition were not what would be called “show quality” they certainly represent a serious investment of time, effort and treasure. If you can’t enjoy what you have created even though the elements make the circumstances difficult, what’s the point of doing it all?
