Whether you’re a vintage truck fan or an electric car enthusiast, the name ICON should conjure up images of a combination of nostalgic relics of years past and modern technology thrusting vehicles into the future. Started by Jonathan Ward ICON is all of this and more, bringing modern technology to the vintage truck world in a revolutionary way. But why does he do it? Why does ICON as a company do what it does? Check out the video above to find out.

Starting out as a Land Cruiser service center in 1996 named TLC (Toyota Land Cruiser), the idea behind ICON didn’t fully develop until Ward began working as a consultant for Toyota and some of the company’s special projects, including prototypes for the 2007 FJ Cruiser. Though the eventual FJ Cruiser differed significantly from Ward’s designs, it was this differentiation between a new model with an old name and a vehicle that paid homage to the history of a vehicle that started the wheels turning on the debut of ICON.
Now years later, ICON stands as an industry standard in morphing old vehicles (like ICON’s BJ, FJ and TR series) with modern technology through things like electronic powerplants rather than just a crazy suspension or engine swap like you’d see on a traditional pro-touring car.
ICON also specializes in special projects, like the recent transformation of a 1946 Lincoln Zephyr through the ICON Derelict Program.
So why does Ward do what he does through ICON? Well, it’s all about passion and bringing the dreams of long-lost automotive eras back to the forefront of the industry. Now that’s something we can certainly get behind!
