Summit Racing Equipment has recently introduced a line of parts catering to fans of the classic step van. For those of you with an itch for commercial and service vehicles, you’re in luck. Read on for a bit of information on the parts that are available in their exclusive combo package. Get your schematics ready for that next food truck, trailer, or mobile ice cream parlor.
The idea came when Top Gear on History co-host Rutledge Wood teamed up with American Resto Mods and the guys over at Summit to rebuild his old 1949 Chevy Kurbmaster Step Van. You can check out more of the build highlights on Summit Racing’s On All Cylinders Blog.
The combo parts package will allow enthusiasts to create a step van of their own by using the same parts Rutledge Woods utilized during his build. The reason for this is that Summit believes the template serves as a great starting point for building a custom project. The combo package includes:
- Engine and drivetrain
- Exhaust system
- Electrical system
- Steering and brakes
- Gauges
- Wheels and tires
As you can see, Summit provides a comprehensive package of the essentials that someone might need in order to undertake such a build.
Step vans are not the necessarily the most common site even for the service vehicle enthusiast. It’s nice to know that the option to consolidate one’s search for parts is available.

As for Rutledge and his recently completed ’49 Kurbmaster he had this to say, “The first time you see a project completed, it’s an amazingly emotional moment, was this a good idea? Am I going to love it? By the time I walked up to it and sat down, I was in love. It was everything I wanted it to be and more.”
