Most of the time, when we want to build a car we start with the car we have because we have no other choice. Other times, we decide which car we want to build and then we go find it. Then there are those who start with a rendering of what the car should look like and then they set out to find the donor car so they can begin the build.
This 1969 Daytona Clone was one such car, and interestingly enough it looks like the rendering was done after the build was completed instead of prior to finding the donor car. And the build went from concept to completion in less than a year, pretty impressive.
The goals were set: over 500 horsepower, 200 mph top end, and then the refinements of air conditioning, cruise control and a range of 600 miles per tank of fuel. The best of both worlds, you think?
Starting with a very clean 1969 Charger SE that he found on Dodgechargers.com, he started taking it apart and the search began for 1970 fenders, hood, the nose piece, the wing… it all adds up.
The project came together pretty quick and the parts list was extensive. The 400 block was bored .035 over, and he added Edelbrock Performer heads, a Holley Street Dominator intake and Street Avenger 870 carb. The front brakes are from an ’08 Challenger while the rear are ‘08 Viper rotors with ’98 Mustang PBR calipers.
We’re not sure if the horsepower and fuel range goals that were set for this car have been reached, but for a car built in less than a year from a rendering it definitely looks like the first few hundred miles are going to be all petal to the metal.
