When he isn’t hard at work being the CEO of Chrysler’s Motorsports Division, Ralph Gilles is hard at play. Recently, he got to play with one of SRT‘s latest toys the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat at the Grattan Raceway in Michigan. He uploaded a video of him piloting the Hellcat around the road course. The original intent of his video to capture the beautiful baritone song that is played by the band formed around the 6.2L Hemi and it’s stainless dual exhaust system.
His high speed recording session was interrupted by a Cadillac CTSV on slicks that “got into his crosshairs”. After being interrupted, Gilles decided to take advantage of the situation to see what the Hellcat can do against a modified CTSV. He kicked on the Hemi Hellcats afterburners and engaged the CTSV in a roadcourse dogfight. Despite being a stock car on a test run, Gilles was able to keep up and keep the CTSV in his gunsight the entire race.
The 707 horsepower Hemi Hellcat tracked down the Caddy, and after a few overcooked turns, according to Gilles, he was able to take the CTSV on the inside and drive past him. Perhaps the CTSV driver was too busy watching his mirrors and maybe tried too hard to outpace the Challenger.
The song played by the Hellcat is the best wild rockin’ tunes we have heard in awhile. If you haven’t heard it yet, treat your ears by plugging in some headphones and cranking up the volume. The Hellcat may not be the best handling car on the track, but Gilles put it through its paces and showed us that the Challenger can do some damage!
Mission accomplished!
